Sélestat's "Green lung"
This beautiful corner of nature located near Sélestat gets its name from the "Forest of the Ill" (Illwald in Alsatian).
As a "green lung" for the nearby town, this regional nature reserve includes a unique selection of fauna and flora.
The many shades of green offered by its dense and well protected vegetation combine with the blue of the flood waters often experienced in these wetlands to create an attractive natural environment !
When turning a corner, sharp-eyed walkers may be lucky enough to surprise a couple of France's largest wild deer population here.
L’Ill*wald is home to many natural treasures waiting to be discovered along its forest paths. The small fleabanes, marsh ferns, ramsons, kingfishers or beavers are just a few examples.
