La Lame de Marc Couturier (Contemporary artwork)
Place Saint-Georges, 67600 Selestat
Second public commission of contemporary art installed in Sélestat in 1998, "La Lame" was directed by Marc Couturier. Dominating the square in front of the church of Saint-Georges, fixed on the gable wall of a building dating back to the Middle Ages (the former Latin School), a long shape stretches for a calm appearance. It can be violent when the sun hits the gold leaves with which it is covered.
This sculpture is intended to be a "blade" that shines and illuminates with its presence the entire site of the square and beyond. It could well maintain a kind of spiritual dialogue with the works of the Humanist Library, vertical to a wall that protected its initial background.
