Présentation

During European Museum Night, playing with words will be the rule at the Humanist Library. Sometimes piquant, often funny but always delicious, the adages collected by the famous Erasmus of Rotterdam will enliven the evening for young and old alike.

The programme: as well as a free tour of the museum (from 7pm to 11pm) and the temporary exhibition L'église Saint-Georges et ses métamorphoses, where mediators will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, there will be plenty of entertainment on offer for visitors throughout the evening.

  • Tree of adages: visitors are invited to write down their favourite proverb and come and supply the tree of adages set up for the occasion.
  • Les adages font le zoo: in this family game for children aged 3 and over, the aim is to find out which animal is hiding behind each adage.
  • Quand les adages sortent du chapeau: improvised sketches based on the adages by the Grosso Modo company
  • Calligrammes: young and old can turn the adages into drawings
  • Book presentation: at 7.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm, in the reading room, the public can discover a version of Erasmus' Adages printed in Venice in 1509.
