Conference ‘The modern fortifications of Sélestat at the crossroads of archival sources and preventive archaeology’.
An archaeological dig carried out from January to March 2024 at the former Celluloïd site in Sélestat revealed part of the town's modern fortifications.
The route of half-moon 26, an advanced structure located on the southern edge of the urban fabric, was identified, as were the remains of a bridge across the defensive ditch.
The results of these excavations will be put into perspective with archive data and presented in a two-part lecture by Bastien Prévot (archaeologist, Archéologie Alsace) and Dr Jean-Marie Balliet (historian).
The conference is being organised following the General Meeting of the Friends of the Humanist Library.
