Built between the 10th and 13th centuries and surrounded by the Vosges forest, Guirbaden is located 1 km from the village of Mollkirch, on the hills overlooking the Bruche Valley. It is the largest castle in Alsace (2 hectares) and certainly one of the oldest.
The association "Sauver le Guirbaden" (Save the Guirbaden), which was set up in April 2015, is offering a rich programme for the European Heritage Days:
- Medieval camp with knight dress-up at 11am, 1pm and 3pm,
- Exhibition of builders' tools, photos and old lithographs
- For children: treasure hunt through the castle and other wooden games, such as chamboule-tout, crossbow shooting, skittles, the mill. (Pass-jeux at €5)
A medieval camp will be set up to take you back in time: tents, weapons and shields, a demonstration of how to make a coat of mail, seat and bed, crockery... with volunteers in medieval costume.
Wear walking shoes and keep your eyes peeled!
Small-scale medieval catering available on site.
