Présentation
This village, founded in the 13th century, partially surounded by battlements, is the smallest fortified village in Alsace. You can see typical patterns of alsatian half-timbering on the house. The ancient Hattstatt's and Schauenbourg's castle was built in 1275. The central building (15th century) is occupied since 1903 by the retirement-house Sainte-Anne. In the old ditch a garden was refitted. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church is outside of the fortifications, and is ornamented by a remarkable pyx (1500) and a very beautiful baroque furniture. the Saint-Catherine chapel, mentionned for the first time in 1620, would have been built after an plague epidemic. At the 18th century, the small city was a trendy hydrotherapeutic-resort, activity from which she preserved interesting witnesses.
