Présentation

The Missa Providentiae is a Kyrie-Gloria in D minor composed by Antonio Caldara. This form is considered to be a practice of Protestant worship.

Between 1725 and 1733, Caldara's Missa Providentiae was converted into a Missa tota by the composer Jan Dismas Zelenka in response to the practice of the Dresden court, which was Catholic at the time. A few years later, Bach made a copy of the Kyrie that today bears the name Sanctus BWV 239 in the catalogue of his works.

In this way, the beauty and accessibility of this music passes from hand to hand, offering itself to the ears of music lovers, leading us towards an interiorisation conducive to the approach of Easter.

It is along these lines that the ephemeral choir Eurydice will be singing for a fortnight prior to Holy Week 2025. This choir brings people together around a project specific to each cultural season, with a predilection for sacred works from the Baroque period. It will be accompanied by a string quintet from the Sélestat Chamber Orchestra.
