La Vancelle is a mountain village at an altitude of about 430 metres, surrounded by the Vosges mountains and situated about 12 kilometres from Sélestat.
La Vancelle is an ideal starting point for short walks (Circuit du Heyrisheck or Hintereck) but also for hikers who want to take on this massif.
Overlooking the valley, the Chalmont culminates at 702 metres, about 45 minutes walk from La Vancelle (church car park). This rocky promontory is a real site of legends. It marks the beginning of a hiking trail that leads to the Rocher du Coucou and to rocks with particular shapes: the Cheval Tombé, the Salière, the Roche des Fées. At the top you will find a natural lookout point which invites you to take a break and admire the breathtaking view of the valleys and the Haut-Koenigsbourg massif.
You can also visit the Frankenbourg castle, built in the Middle Ages and reorganised in the Renaissance. You can also discover archaeological excavations during fascinating guided tours.
To rest, accommodation in a gîte, in collective accommodation or in a hotel awaits you in La Vancelle. And after the effort, the comfort, you will be able to take strength in one of the two restaurants of the village.
