Présentation

Located about forty kilometres south of Strasbourg and thirty kilometres north of Colmar, Ebersmunster is a village easily identifiable by its imposing Saint-Maurice abbey church, which is widely visible from the surrounding area.

The village is the setting for this unique Austrian Baroque abbey church. An architectural nugget dating mainly from the 18th century, the Saint-Maurice Abbey in Ebersmunster is one of the most beautiful in eastern France, recognisable from afar with its three bulbous bell towers covered in green tiles.

In addition to this jewel classified as a historical monument, the abbey church has a Silbermann organ (completely restored to its original condition in 1999).
Every year, Les Heures Musicales d'Ebersmunster, organised by the Association des Amis de l'Abbatiale, offers classical music concerts and recitals on the Silbermann organ to a well-informed public.

Around the abbey church, take a walk through the village, a typical Ried village with its half-timbered houses and beautiful old farms. Stop to taste two local specialities: matelote du Ried, a fish-based dish, and "mandelbari" (almond mount), a sweet delicacy made up of a superimposition of shortcrust pastry circles topped with almond meringue.
