Présentation
While exhibitions are the visible part of a museum, they do not necessarily reveal everything that goes on behind the scenes. The fundamental mission of a French museum such as ours is to preserve, restore, study, promote and enrich its collections. Today, Wissembourg's rich visual heritage has finally found its place in the Westercamp Museum thanks to the City's purchase of the collection from the former Wentzel printing house. This is the museum's most significant acquisition to date, requiring a considerable operation, scheduled to last at least five years, to process this exceptional and diverse collection, which includes machines, tools, archives and some 50,000 printed images. ‘Thousands of Images’ recounts this unprecedented episode in the museum's history in an exhibition that reveals the hidden side of the reserves and the work carried out on the collections.
