Marta Kratochvilova on traverso, Marc Hervieux on recorder, Chantal Baeumler on viola da gamba and Parcival Castro on theorbo will perform solo or tutti works from the main musical movements of this rich and varied Baroque Europe. In fact, at every period, from Italy to France, from Germany to England, composers had different aesthetics and styles, linked to the historical, religious or cultural context... This concert will illustrate these different tastes and characteristics.
The programme includes majestic, dreamy and mischievous French music, with Trios by Marin Marais and excerpts from a Suite for two flutes and continuo. Georg Philipp Telemann was very well known in his day, and he succeeded in drawing inspiration from and creating a synthesis of different styles, French and Italian, coming close, like François Couperin, George Friedrich Haendel and Henry Purcell, to the ‘Goûts réunis’. And last but not least, a trip to Italy with a Trio Sonata by Sammartini, theatrical and full of contrasts, just like the transalpine style that was so popular throughout Europe in the 18th century.
