Walk in the Ill*wald forest
Route de Marckolsheim, 67600 Selestat
Marked loop of a red ring, about 9 km long, allowing to discover a representative sample of the landscapes and habitats of the Ill*Wald, a regional nature reserve: wet hay meadows interspersed with hedges and reeds, an alluvial forest of 1,500 ha in which 28 tree species develop, among which ash, oak and alder reign supreme, marsh habitats, a dense and varied network of rivers, witness, with the groundwater sometimes flush with the groundwater, to the omnipresence of water in this humid area.
On the way, the attentive walker may have the chance to see a few individuals of the largest wild fallow deer herd in France.
Due to the ash blight, access to the forest is limited and only one loop of the Club Vosgien is accessible to the public. There is still a risk of falling branches/trees. During this period, driving in the forest is forbidden in case of wind.
