Mietesheim

This small village on the banks of the Zinsel River is known as the French capital of horseradish! This condiment, probably of Ukrainian origin, is widely used in Eastern and Central Europe and is also one of Alsace's specialties. With its remarkable houses, Mietesheim is part of the circuit of picturesque villages in the Northern Vosges and is home to one of the oldest half-timbered houses in Alsace (15th century). For lovers of local produce, a visit to the Alélor factory shop is a must: it is the last sweet mustard factory in Alsace and the only French company that processes horseradish roots. y).
