Ebersheim

Présentation

Ebersheim is located in the heart of Alsace, in the Ried, a few kilometres north of Sélestat.

On foot or by bike, all year round, as you walk through the streets of this village, you will discover remarkable examples of protective niches on the gables or facades of houses and even in the cladding of barns or tobacco drying sheds. There are more than thirty of them.

They are either a cavity or a box affixed to the wall to house statues of the Holy Family, Saints and sometimes icons behind glass. A good number of them represent statuettes of the Virgin Mary, others feature the characters of Jesus, Saint Odile or Saint Anthony of Padua.
Originally, these pious niches had a role of protection against fire, which is easily explained in a village with many barns and especially tobacco drying sheds. So pay attention and look up!

Discover the 18th century church of Saint-Martin, which was listed in its entirety on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments on 8 October 1984.

Continue your walk around the Notre-Dame chapel before heading towards the Goutte d'Eau interpretation trail, on the theme of water, with the aim of making it better respected and shared. A 3.5 km discovery trail for tourists and educators. Four interpretation panels will allow you to discover 4 sites of interest located on the outskirts of the village: The Loch, the fishing pond, the irrigated meadows and bringing water to the mill.

A few steps from this path, dive into history with a visit to the Kircher Mill. Created in 1748 and still in operation, come and discover the secrets of traditional flour making.
