Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul

Présentation

The former parish church of Scherwiller was built (or enlarged) in 1725; it is known by a partial survey of 1857 for the construction of a second sacristy; its choir with two sections cut off was vaulted with ribs, the first sacristy was vaulted with ridges. By the 19th century the church had become too small and was destroyed in 1898. A new building was erected in 1898 and 1899, consecrated in 1900. The church is in neo-Gothic style and has furniture. The architects are Heinrich and Weigend (inscription on the north face of the bell tower). On the curve of the bell tower is written "Erbaut 1898 1899"). Remarkable for its stained glass windows, its "barn church" style (no pillars) and its acoustics.
