After a first appearance at Les Heures Musicales in 2018, the Collegium Vocal Strasbourg-Ortenau cross-border choir returns this year with a programme focusing on the music of today.
Accompanied by the Singakademie Ortenau and the Musiciens sans frontières Alsace-Ortenau orchestra, Olaf Fütterer's troupe has chosen to explore the world of a young Norwegian composer whose influence is growing every year: Ola Gjeilo. A composer living in Manhattan, O. Gjeilo is contributing to the revival of sacred choral music in the same way as the American Eric Whitacre, the Latvian Eriks Ešenvalds and the Estonian Arvo Pärt. His compositions are included in the repertoire of professional or amateur choirs of a high standard in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and for some years now in France.
O. Gjeilo has written a mass, the Sunrise Mass, a symphonic mass for choir and string orchestra. It premiered in Oslo on 2 November 2008. It comprises four parts: Kyrie: The Spheres, Gloria: Sunrise, Credo: The City, Sanctus & Agnus Dei: Identity & The Ground.
This Mass will be performed for the first time in Ebersmunster, along with other works by the composer that have been creating a buzz on streaming platforms for several years.
