Présentation

Located on a former Rhine gravel bank, the Offendorf Forest Nature Reserve protects 60 hectares of alluvial forest. Although the entire site is deprived of the dynamics of Rhine floods, its depressions can be flooded by rising groundwater levels. It is also surrounded by former arms of the Rhine.
The most flooded areas are home to white willows and black poplars or ""softwoods"". Hardwoods"", oaks, ashes and shrubs prefer alluvial levees. In open areas, British inulas, high violets, marsh euphorbia and ragwort flourish.
Many butterfly species invade borders, clearings and undergrowth: azure sylvain, changing large mars, geographical map, machaon, aurora, lemon, etc. In amphibians, there are agile, green and red frogs, crested, alpine or spotted newts.
