Morimont Giant Oak

This is, to the best of the authors' knowledge, the largest and oldest oak in the Upper Rhine region. Despite its exceptional size (nearly 7 m in circumference), it is not in great shape due to age and the presence of a spruce forest around it.
It's age and initial spread-out shape shows that this oak was born and lived in an open pasture context that turned into forest a few decades ago. This oak is on private forest land but is clearly visible from the forest path.
This tree witnessed the Peasants' War and was already growing vigorously during the Thirty Years War. Please note the immediate proximity of the site to the beautiful ruins of Morimont Castle.
