The Bodenmatten arboretum

The arboretum has almost 180 trees and shrubs, including willows, oaks, pear trees, apple trees, etc. In this humid place, you will discover species of animals living there: frogs, snails, shellfish and birds. Educational panels explain everything about the trees along the way. And a bit of history, as this is a village project: The current location of the arboretum was initially made up of meadows that were transformed into a fir forest in 1970. Following the storm of 1999 and a heavy attack of bark beetles in the winter of 2004, the forest had to be felled. The land was levelled, two ponds were dug and school children were involved in the planting of around 100 trees and shrubs that harmoniously complemented the existing varieties. All along the paths, the walker can discover the names of the different trees and shrubs as well as those of the children who sponsored them. Recently, a sports and fun trail was installed in the arboretum. It is an extension of the equipment in the recreation area, located next door behind the stadium.
