Built on the site of the former harbour, the Ladhof Hospital is a brilliant example of XVIIIth century architecture. This building which served fi rst as a hospital then a prison (1806) and lodgings was erected in 1765 on the site of the former fishermen’s guild house by the architect Jean-Baptiste Alexandre Chassain. The front building is crowned with a rounded pediment bearing the emblems of the hospital : a spread-wing dove on a tau framed by an acanthus.
