St. Quirin's chapel

Former monastery of the Dominican Sisters of Sylo, so called because of their original convent, founded at the beginning of the 13th century in the forest of Sihlbach, near Ribeauvillé. They took refuge in Sélestat after their buildings were burnt down by Conrad de Horbourg, brother of their confessed brother, the chatelain of Bilstein, who was close by and fatal outcome of a fratricidal hatred!

It was here in 1674, shortly before his death in Sasbach, on the right bank of the Rhine, that Marshal Turenne was welcomed by an eager and interested municipality.

The hospitable vocation of the place dates back to 1803. It was supplemented by the more recent choice of a new patron saint.
The simple but well-preserved Gothic cloister has a curiously trapezoidal layout. Fortunately, it was integrated into the redesign of the district.

The other jewel worthy of preservation is of course the 'chapel', as it is called, although it is the size of a church. The partitioning of the chapel alters its majesty. Furniture that is no longer functional will find shelter elsewhere. However, the memory of St. Nicholas, the first patron saint of the site, already the tutelary patron saint of Sylo, of the boatmen and, finally, of the children, can still be found there, as confirmed by the very lively tradition of the annual St. Nicholas' market, with its procession and distribution of sweets.

The building can only be seen outdoors.
