Présentation

From the Gauls to the Argentinian Farm

What's the connection between the Gauls and the Farm? The Ferme d'Argentin tells the story of agriculture, from prehistoric times to the present day. For each period, you'll find animals and plants that have a strong link with that period. Large illustrations show the landscape and the human way of life. But it's so much better in real life! That's why the Ferme d'Argentin has invited the Médiomatrici troupe to set up camp in the meadows for a weekend.

Lifestyle and crafts

The Mediomatrici will be taking you back in time through a range of workshops: wool spinning, vegetable dyeing, coin minting, pottery, leatherwork and blacksmithing. They will also continue their military training so that they are ready to defend the village in the event of war, and use their musical instruments. It's a real plunge back into the Iron Age. You'll be able to talk to members of the tribe: they're passionate about the life of the Gauls and will be delighted to share their knowledge.

Preparing to build an attic

This weekend will see the first elements of a protohistoric granary being built. The granary is the place where food reserves were stored, to protect them from damp and the sun, but also from animals. It was built on stilts and accessed by a ladder, which was removed as soon as the food had been stored or retrieved. To prevent rodents from using the stilts to access the attic, they were topped with large stones.

Daily events to discover the Ferme d'Argentin

Throughout the weekend, the animators at the Ferme d'Argentin will be offering a range of activities linked to history, such as an introduction to archaeological excavation, or to the animals and plants on the site.
