The pedestrian zone and the St. Barbara Arsenal
In the heart of the pedestrian zone and its shops stands the Arsenal Sainte-Barbe. Originally a large merchandise warehouse with three floors of attics. In 1534, this market hall became an arsenal. The first floor was converted into a festival hall at the beginning of the 20th century. A double flight of stairs was then raised above the Gothic ground floor door. The magnificent toothed gable, characteristic of the Rhine Renaissance, is topped by a thick stork's nest that adds to the picturesque beauty of the ensemble.
